About the PHS Wildcats:
After a 2-3 pre-district showing against 5 playoff-bound opponents, the Cats found a second gear to break away to a 5-0 District 7-4A-I championship. The keys to their current 7-game winning streak have been a relentess offensive ground attack, speedy pursuit on defense, and solid special teams play. They are averaging 289 yards rushing per game during that win streak. Junior RB Donovan Williams has gained an even 1,500 yards rushing with 11 TDs on the ground, while senior QB Ja’Kerion Brown has 1099 yards rushing and 10 TDs. Brown has 1,052 yards passing with 12 TDs through the air. Senior WR Jalon Pipkins has caught 32 passes for 523 yards and 8 TDs. Defensively, senior LBs Dre McKinney and Tyrel McCalester have been active with 212 and 149 total tackles, respectively. Sophomore DE Vershaud Richardson has 92 tackles and a team-leading 12 behind the line of scrimmage. The secondary is paced by safeties TD Williams (7 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles) and Jordan Furtch (6 interceptions, 114 tackles).
About the Van Vandals:
The Vandals carried an unbeaten record into the regular season finale where they were tripped up by Terrell, 19-14, for their only blemish for 2016. They rolled Princeton, 41-14, in the first round of the playoffs and destroyed Mineral Wells, 54-7, last week. Any talk about Van starts with standout junior QB Garrett Moseley. He’s completed 145 of 229 passes for 2,346 yards, 32 TDs, and just 4 interceptions. Moseley is also the Vandals’ leading rusher with 205 carries for 1,467 yards and 18 TDs. Like Paris, Van features a tall senior WR in Isaiah Allred (56-1,038-15 TDs). Also, look for two-way performers Cooper Bledsoe (8 interceptions) and Connor Houston (8 TD receptions). The Vandals have a senior-dominated defense that has allowed 14 or fewer points in their last 8 games.

Terrell Tigers
Aug. 26, 7:30 pm, at Terrell Memorial Stadium

Terrell Tigers. 2015 Record: 11-2. Head Coach: Mike Shields. Key Returning Players: The Tigers were district champions and made it to the Class 5A-II regional semifinals with their best season in 20 years. With the drop in classification to Class 4A this season, Terrell is the preseason favorite to win District 8-4A-I and challenge for a top 10 showing in state. The Tigers’ QB Klayton Henderson returns after passing for 1,365 yards and 16 TDs in his junior season. The top returning RB is Elijah McQueen (364 yards and 5 TDs). All-District Daylon Hickman (6-2, 330) anchors an experienced offensive line. Depth could be an issue for the Tigers, who lost a talented senior class, and the Terrell coaching staff will be relying on several two-way performers such as McQueen, an All-District linebacker. The secondary includes All-District performers Kanodrick Richardson and JaDaveon Williams, who combined for 7 interceptions in 2015. This Series: Paris leads, 4-1-2. Last Year’s Meeting: The teams did not meet.
