Student Chromebook Information
Paris ISD applied and was awarded a Technology Lending Grant from the Texas Education Agency for 2014-2016to provide lending technology with internet access for school and home to our 9th grade students who wish to participate in this voluntary program. After looking at many tools, the committee felt that Chromebooks would best help us meet our goals.
Chromebooks provide strong technological learning options. The equipment provides a more student-friendly learning environment beyond traditional note-taking and textbooks. While desktop publishing, presentations, and spreadsheets are part of the Chromebook applications, Chromebooks also allow students to use more interactive resources and electronic textbooks. Technology will no longer be a separate part of learning but will be fully integrated into the student’s educational experience.
Students who opt in to the Chromebook program must pay a one-time $25 refundable deposit and return a signed Parent/Student Chromebook Agreement form. This deposit is due before or at the time a student receives their Chromebook. This deposit will be refunded at the end of the school year if the Chromebook is returned in the same condition as when it was received. Paris ISD will be responsible for the technical maintenance of the Chromebook and will cover repairs not resulting from student abuse.
Also, as part of the grant award, PHS purchased wireless internet access Hot Spots. These Hot Spots are available for check-out to 9th grade students who do not have home wireless internet access. In order for a student to check-out a wireless HotSpot, the student must have a signed Program Responsibilities and Home Use Agreement on file and a teacher assignment form outlining the online assignment which will require internet access at home.
